QUOTES FROM FORMER 89 NORTH ST GUESTS

"I haven't felt without a home since I arrived!! I live with a big "family" of big-hearted people! It's one of the few places that aren't detox for people in difficult situations. You have to be clean, no drugs or alcohol allowed on site or in you unless doctor prescribed. Then it's like living in a college dorm! For all those who think the homeless are dirty, drug & alcohol infested criminals - if you don't have a hefty bank account it could be you in the blink of an eye! You are treated with kindness and dignity and given so much help and understanding."

"I moved into ANEW Place on North St in September 2021. I had been at Med Respite at the BelAire for five months prior to that due to surgery to remove a toe (diabetes related). I was removed from my previous housing due to my ongoing health issues. Because of the case management I received while staying at North St, I was able to apply for their transitional housing program called ANEW Leaf, which gave me access to a subsidized apartment. I had previously had a housing voucher but was unable to find appropriate apartments to utilize that voucher. Having case management while being in a shelter helped keep me on track towards getting housing. Otherwise, I would likely still be in a shelter ( or maybe back in the hospital) and looking for a place I could afford with my limited income. Jesse, my case manager, knew about what housing programs were available and what I qualified for. She helped me apply for and enroll in the transitional housing program and now I am living in my own apartment at Independence Place. Here I can control my diet and environment to best address my ongoing health issues. I am very happy in my new apartment."
